A video of former Vice President Kamala Harris dancing has gone viral on social media.
Newsweek has contacted Harris’ representative for comment via email.
The Context
On Wednesday, Harris spoke at Emerge America’s 20th anniversary gala in San Francisco. The evening marked her first major speech since losing the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump.
The Howard University graduate criticized several of Trump’s policies, including “reckless” moves regarding tariffs and immigration.
“What we are in fact witnessing is a high-velocity event,” she said of the administration’s first 100 days in office. “Where a vessel is being used for the swift implementation of an agenda that has been decades in the making. An agenda to slash public education. An agenda to shrink government and then privatize its services. All while giving tax breaks to the wealthiest among us. By the way, an agenda that is not lowering costs. Not making life more affordable. And not what they promised.”
In response to her remarks, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said: “I think I speak for everyone at the White House. We encourage Kamala Harris to continue going out and doing speaking engagements.”

What To Know
In a behind-the-scenes video of the event, Harris took part in the internet dance trend “Boots on the Ground” with political content creator Kenneth Walden.
“Boots on the Ground” is a popular line dancing song by 803Fresh. Recently, fans have shared versions of the easy-to-learn dance on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube.
In a video posted on his @2rawtooreal Instagram account on Thursday, Walden asked Harris, “How are you, in this moment, maintaining your Black joy.”
“Listen, I feel very blessed. I have an incredible husband, who is here right now,” she said, gesturing toward an off-camera Doug Emhoff.
“And an incredible circle of friends, who are family, and family,” Harris continued. “And I think it’s just important to be with, you know, those people who love you and care about you and get you.”
When Walden asked if Harris had “learned the ‘Boots on the Ground’ dance yet,” the California native said, “I have not,” adding, “Will you teach me?”
The video then cuts to the pair dancing to the tune and high-fiving after completing the steps.
At the time of publication, Walden’s Instagram clip had racked up more than 976,000 views. He also posted the video on X, formerly Twitter, where it received an additional 756,000 views.
On the popular Pop Base X account, the video garnered more than 1.7 million views.
