A dad who originally advised against his daughter getting a puppy was caught having a soft spot for the dachshund when he went over to check on her.
The owner, who wished to keep her name private, told Newsweek via TikTok that she welcomed home a dachshund, Daphne, about three months ago. A friend originally bought her, but when their other dog didn’t accept the small canine, she agreed to take her in.
“At first, we didn’t tell anyone we had a dog,” she said. “We invited my parents for tea, and when my dad walked in, he saw her and went ‘Oh no.'”
This surprised her since her dad owns a dog and has always had a dog, she said. But soon after bringing Daphne home, a pet camera captured her dad’s true feelings about the tiny pup: pure excitement.
The owner shared the findings in an August 31 TikTok under the account @daphnethedachshy, which reached over 402,000 views as of Monday.

In the clip, her dad came to let the dog outside for a bathroom break and to hang out for about an hour until the owner got home, part of the crate-training process to get Daphne used to being left home alone while the owner is at work.
The instant he walked through the door, you could hear joy in his voice as he asked where Daphne was. He called her “baby girl” and “my little girl.”
“I think he was mainly worried about what would happen to his holidays if we got a dog and couldn’t come and babysit his when he’s away,” the owner said. “Fast forward to now, and he’s obsessed with her.”
Obsessed with the precious interaction, TikTok viewers felt the least bit surprised by the dad’s reaction. As one person put it: “There’s no greater love out there than that of a dad and a dog they didn’t want.”
The comment section was filled with similar stories of fathers pretending they want nothing to do with dogs, but the truth always comes out: “No, my dad’s the same. He literally says, ‘Where is she? Hello girl.'”
Another added: “My husband’s dad did this too. I had to put together a slideshow together to convince him, and now he adores the dog.”
