Lately, the New York Giants haven’t had their star wide receiver on the field. Malik Nabers has dealt with numerous setbacks throughout the offseason, and the latest one has held him out for a handful of consecutive practice sessions.
Last week, Giants head coach Brian Daboll wouldn’t reveal Nabers’ setback and couldn’t put a timeline on his recovery. The head coach just made it clear that he’s working hard to get back.
On Tuesday, Daboll had a positive reveal: Malik Nabers is set to practice once again.
The absence left many worried, as they wondered if the star wide receiver’s setback could potentially threaten Nabers’ Week 1 availability.
As long as he can remain consistently healthy, Nabers seems to have a good chance at suiting up at the beginning of the year, gearing up for a major second season in blue.
At the start of spring practices, Nabers was revealed to be dealing with a toe injury. He wasn’t a part of OTAs or mandatory minicamp. Brian Daboll explained that the Giants were simply being cautious with their star wideout, and they hoped he would be ready for training camp.

Indeed, Nabers was healthy and cleared to suit up at the beginning of camp. When he addressed reporters following the first practice session in July, Nabers made it clear that his toe recovery was ongoing. He revealed that surgery was not in the cards, which eliminated a long recovery process.
During training camp, Nabers had another injury scare as he went down with a shoulder-related setback. The Giants were fortunate to have off the following day, which gave Nabers some time to rest and heal up before the next practice. When the Giants returned to the field, Nabers was back in action.

The latest setback for Nabers has been described as a “minor back problem.” There aren’t many specifics on the setback, but the fact that Nabers is practicing on Tuesday confirms that it shouldn’t cause much worry moving forward. On Thursday, the Giants will finish their preseason with a matchup against the New England Patriots. Nabers’ availability for the game is unclear at this moment.
On September 7, the Giants will take on the Washington Commanders, which marks the season opener.
