There is that old question of exactly how Superman is able to hide the fact that he’s also bumbling reporter Clark Kent with nothing more than a pair of eyeglasses. Well, a new clip from “Superman” explains exactly how the Man of Steel keeps his identity secret and, ironically, he isn’t even in it.
The clip, which you can watch above, features Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) hanging out with the Justice Gang and talking with Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. In it, Gardner explains not only how Superman keeps his secret identity, but reveals that he and the Justice Gang know that Superman is Clark Kent.

Gardner tells Lane, “I’m not saying who he is, just that he wears hypno-glasses … they make his face look different in your brain so you don’t know who he is.”

When Lane says she knows about the hypno-glasses, Gardner says, “So you know he’s Clark Kent.”
So there you have it, the question is answered. Superman is able to hide his secret identity with nothing but a pair of glasses because those glasses aren’t normal. They’re “hypno-glasses” that change the way people see his face.
This begs the question of who created the glasses and whether they’re a product of science fiction or some kind of magic, but in a world where super dogs wear capes and space cops wield magic rings, for now “hypno-glasses” should be answer enough.
The clip was shared during a guest appearance by Nathan Fillion on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” with actor Anthony Anderson subbing for Kimmel. Along with the “Superman” clip, Fillion shared that while he had not kept his bowl-cut wig from the film, that he had kept his Green Lantern ring.
That’s actually good news because, after all, we know he’ll be needing it at least two more times. Fillion is confirmed to reprise the role of Guy Gardner at least twice more: first in Season 2 of “Peacemaker” and later in the upcoming HBO Max series “Lanterns.”
“Superman” releases in theaters on July 11. Tickets are on sale now. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. “Superman” stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
