An Arizona mom had viewers stunned after revealing how her infant son’s hair has undergone a dramatic change in just a matter of months.
Baylee Cabrera, 25, from Phoenix, highlighted the contrast in her 14-month-old son Luca’s hair now compared with how it looked as a newborn as part of a video posted to her TikTok bayleecab.
As the clip shows, Luca was born with distinctly dark locks, which was expected.
“The dark hair when he was born wasn’t surprising to us,” Cabrera told Newsweek. “I had super dark long hair when I was born and it lightened over time. We also knew he was going to have a lot of hair because they could actually see it on the ultrasound before he was born.”

But while Cabrera expected Luca’s hair color to lighten a little over time, she was unprepared for what happened in the months that followed.
Luca’s hair didn’t just go from black to a lighter brown, it went even further than that with the happy tot sporting a beautifully blonde head of hair by the time he turned 1.
“Around 6 months is when it started to change, but I don’t think it got truly blonde until like 10 months,” Cabrera said. “It’s just gotten lighter ever since!”
Cabrera’s video highlights the stark contrast in color. It’s a contrast that appeared to capture the imagination of social media, with the clip, which Cabrera captions “obsessed with my blondie boy,” amassing over 2.9 million views.
“Honestly I was just trying to make a cute video, I didn’t have any clue that it would blow up the way it did! I really had no intention behind it,” Cabrera said. “This actually was a video I had in my drafts for months that I had forgotten about.”
Many of the comments on the video came from parents and viewers who had witnessed similar changes for themselves. “I got accused of dyeing my son’s hair when it did this,” one user wrote. “I was born with caramel skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair. Now I’m super pale with freckles, hazel eyes, and copper hair,” another said.
A third added: “I was the opposite I was blonde and blue eyed and now I have auburn hair and hazel eyes”
Though it is more common for children born with blonde hair to darken over time, the transformation Cabrera witnessed is not entirely out of the ordinary.

In 2000, a study published by the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) documented a spate of babies, both male and female, who were born with darker hair for the first six months of life before developing lighter hair between 9 months and 30 months of age.
Interestingly the researchers behind the study, which focused on white, European children, noted that, from the age of 3 onwards, these children’s hair color then became progressively darker up until the age of 5.
While Luca’s hair color could well follow suit, Cabrera is just trying to enjoy him as he is right now. “We are in love with his blonde hair,” she said. “My husband and I both had blonde hair around his age so it’s really fun to see him follow suit.”
