The Green Bay Packers are heading into the 2025 NFL season with Super Bowl aspirations. After being a borderline contender in each of the last two years, the team is tired of coming up short. They want to bring a championship back to Lambeau Field.
With that in mind, they are going to need the entire team firing on all cylinders. Offensively, there is one name to keep a close eye on as he works his way back from injury.
Christian Watson has been an elite deep threat for Jordan Love. He has not been able to develop into being an all-around wideout, but his skills down the field have been valuable. Unfortunately, in the final game of the regular season last year against the Chicago Bears, he went down with a torn ACL.

Throughout the offseason, Watson has been working hard to get back on the field. He has made a lot of progress, but there is no telling when he might return to the field.

On Thursday, head coach Matt LaFleur spoke out about the dynamic Packers’ playmaker. He offered a cryptic update about him that shared both positive and negative notes.
When asked if Watson could return sooner than expected, LaFleur honestly turned that notion away.
“Probably not, to be honest,” LaFleur said. “The guys that are available, that’s who you coach and that’s kind of where you focus. It is exciting to see how far along he is, he’s been doing a great job, he attacks it the right way. Our trainers have done an outstanding job with him. I think he’s in the best spot possible considering the circumstance.”
It’s not a bad update necessarily. Watson is in a good spot when it comes to his recovery, but that does not mean that he’ll be ready to play early on in the year.

Right now, there is a lot of competition at the wide receiver position in Green Bay. Outside of Watson, the Packers have Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams. Bo Melton is also on the roster, although the team is experimenting with him at cornerback as well.
During his career to this point, Watson has played in 38 games. He has caught 98 passes for 1,653 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 16.9 yards per reception.
Getting him back on the field will be crucial to open up the deep ball even more for Love.
