The Green Bay Packers attempted to trade star cornerback Jaire Alexander earlier this offseason. Now, it has been reported that the Buffalo Bills were the team that was interested in acquiring him.
While the two teams discussed a trade, they could not come together on an agreement. Both sides chose to move on.
Now, the Packers have opted to outright release Alexander on Monday. He will become a free agent and will be free to choose his next team as a free agent.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz was the first to report that the Bills were the team who discussed a trade for Alexander earlier this offseason. He provided more details on the news.

“Sources: The Packers and Bills held trade talks this offseason centered around CB Jaire Alexander, but talks ultimately fell through and Buffalo moved on,” he wrote on X.
“It’s unclear if the Bills will revisit things now that Alexander has been released — especially since they spent a first-round pick on Maxwell Hairston — but they were a team that had shown real interest.”
Alexander has only been able to play in seven games each of the last two years. He has seen his career completely derailed by injuries.
Last season in just seven games, Alexander showed why he’s still so valued. He recorded 16 total tackles to go along with a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. Those numbers show what he’s still capable of providing when healthy.
For a team like Buffalo, who is a top-tier Super Bowl contender, adding Alexander could be the final piece of the puzzle. In fact, the Bills do have a need at the cornerback position.

At 28 years old, Buffalo would be wise to take a chance on Alexander. Even though they did draft Maxwell Hairston, the former Green Bay star would be a welcome addition and would help make a push towards a championship if he can stay healthy.
Plenty of other teams around the NFL could show interest in Alexander as well. He’s one of the most talented cornerbacks in the league. Any team that needs secondary help would make sense as a suitor.
Expect to hear more news about Alexander in the near future. The Bills are a team worth keeping a very close eye on.
