Former NBA All-Star forward Shawn Kemp is in some serious trouble. The former All-Star pleaded guilty to an assault charge in Washington parking lot shooting.

The 55-year-old appeared in court Tuesday and entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of second-degree assault. Kemp had originally faced a first-degree assault charge after discharging a firearm during an incident in March 2023 at a parking lot outside a Tacoma shopping center.

According to The Seattle Times, the former three-time All-NBA forward allegedly fired at two individuals inside a Toyota 4Runner following a break-in involving his truck. Items taken included keys to his business, a cellphone, important documents, and sports memorabilia such as game-worn jerseys of Gary Payton and Kemp—gear that had been intended for a charity auction.
The former NBA star used a tracking feature on the stolen phone to locate the suspect driving the 4Runner.
Although most of the stolen items had been discarded, the phone was kept—mistakenly believed by the thief to be a drug scale. Kemp eventually tracked the vehicle down again, only to find a second individual inside.
According to reports, the second person unexpectedly opened fire on Kemp, prompting the confrontation.
Kemp is now due back for sentencing in late August.
Kemp is a former No. 17 overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics. In his career, the 55-year-old averaged 14.6 points per game, 8.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field in 14 seasons and 1,051 games.
He spent his first eight years of his career with the Supersonics. Since then, he bounced around from the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seasons, the Portland Trail Blazers for two seasons, and spent the last season of his career with the Orlando Magic.
